Course Description

Introduction to Architecture is a comprehensive curriculum about the theory system and framework of knowledge of the architectural discipline. It is an introductory theory course that prepares students for a quick understanding of the discipline of architecture and for a solid foundation for further professional learning. This course, given by the most famous professors and scholars of related fields in architecture academy, describes architecture comprehensively and guides students into the knowledge of architecture.

This course is composed of three parts: architectural project and design, architectural history and culture, architectural environment and technology.

Elementary architecture

Course Objectives

After taking the course, students are supposed to understand architecture from the viewpoint of humanity, technology, aesthetics, etc. I Students will be guided to understand the related disciplines of architectural design, knowledge structure, thinking method and the discipline hotspots, and the position and role of professional courses.

  1. Architectural project and design

    1. Basic training in related knowledge of building design

    2. Knowledge of architectural design and the accomplishment

    3. The general methods and steps of building design

    4. The problem, laws, difficulties and solution in design thought

  2. Architectural history and culture

    1. Discipline hotspots of history of architecture, architectural heritage protection, and the contemporary architectural theory, etc.

    2. The close relationship between architecture and human culture

    3. The process of eastern and western history and culture

  3. Architectural environment and technology

    1. The structure of the building construction, architectural acoustics, optics and thermology1.2 Low carbon buildings and sustainable development

    2. The close relationship between the up-to-date construction technology and the architectural design

Capability Tasks

CT1: To understand basic science, and to have analytical ability and the ability to integrate related knowledge.

CT2: To apply relevant professional knowledge to the field of science and technology: understanding of the basic concepts and its connotation, application of different methods and concepts which have been learned, capability of judging the scope and limitations of such applications.

CT3: To grasp methodologies and engineering tools: identifying, utilizing and solving problems. Even if the students are not familiar with the content, they can turn to computer tools for systematic analysis.
