Course Description

This course is optional designed for Engineering Master of Computer Science in TIEI. The application of wireless network is becoming more and more widely used and mature, and its attention and popularity are getting higher and higher. This course is a new course which integrates wireless communication technology with computer network. It represents the innovation and development trend of computer network. The content of the course covers the introduction to wireless network, wireless network structure, wireless communication, wireless LAN (WLAN), wireless personal area network (WPAN), wireless metropolitan area network (WMAN) and the wireless network technology in the future. Through teaching, homework, case analysis and practice, this course aims to make the students fully understand the wireless network and lay a solid foundation.

Prerequisite

Computer Network: to understand the basic information of computer network.

Course Objectives

Through the study of this course, students should be able to:

  • Master the basic transmission technology, master the network technology and the basic principles of WLAN, WPAN, mobile network as well as sensor network,

  • Learn to analyze and conduct the research on problems in the network preliminary, Learn to solve and verify the problems using network simulation or other methods, Learn to design components for wireless network as well as to configure and maintain wireless networks, and to

  • Inspire the students’ interest and enthusiasm to learn other wireless network.

Course Syllabus

  • Instruction of wireless network: the history of wireless communication and wireless network, as well as the connection and difference between them

  • Wireless network structure: the logical structure and physical structure of wireless network.

  • Wireless communication: the wireless communication and infrared communication

  • Implementation of WLAN: technical standards, implementation, security and troubleshooting technology for wireless LAN

  • WPAN and WMAN: technical standard and implementation of WPAN and WMAN

  • Future technology for wireless network: the latest development, the development trend and the emerging technology in wireless network
