1. TIEI Introduction
Tianjin International Engineering Institute (TIEI) was formally founded on May 13, 2014. The institute is established under the partnership between Tianjin University in China and French Polytech Nice-Sophia & Polytech Group, with the aim to train high-level engineering talents by following the French training mode. TIEI uses the unique French elite engineering education philosophy and the successful experience for reference, follows the French engineer training mode to pay attention to cultivate students’ innovation ability and hand-on ability. To establish an open, international, innovative and word-class engineering institute, TIEI satisfies the talents demands of innovation-oriented country’ construction, serves the “The Belt and Road” strategic layout and cultivates international engineering talents who can promote the world science and technology progress for Chinese social economic development needs.
Selecting and recruiting students from key universities in China, TIEI has three specialties: Electronics, Computer Science and Building. TIEI offers three-year full time academic programs, which are designed to cultivate and nurture postgraduate students who will be future engineers. When the students complete their study and meet the degree requirements, eligible students will be awarded graduation certificate, master’s degree of Tianjin University and engineer diploma (after CTI certificate). After entering TIEI, students are taught by TJU professors, French teachers and enterprises executives or experts. In the course aspect, small classes can ensure the courses qualities; lectures, TD courses, TP courses, specialized courses, language courses, and humanities and management courses can fully develop students’ interdisciplinary comprehensive qualities and abilities. In the practice aspect, TIEI establishes enterprise club. There are 42 well-known domestic and foreign enterprises joined in the enterprise club. Such as SIEMENS, Schneider, HUAWEI, NXP, China Architecture Design & Research Group and Tianjin Reality Development (Group) Co., LTD. The club members are the mainly enterprises for students’ internship. TIEI students must take three internships that are “Blue collar internship”, “Assistant engineer internship” and “Engineer internship”, with a total duration of no less than 10 months. Students also have opportunities to study and practice abroad. Using the French elite education mode and providing more overseas learning opportunities, professional internships in enterprises, diversified high level teaching faculties and international cultural atmosphere, TIEI aims to cultivate the comprehensive international engineering leading talents who can promote the national economic and social development and world progress.
2. Statistics of Students and Teachers
TIEI recruits about 100 graduate students every year, and now has 126 postgraduates studying in TIEI. The faculty is composed by Tianjin University teachers, foreign teachers and enterprises mentors. Among them, 108 are from Tianjin University, 17 are foreign teachers and 20 are enterprises mentors. 58% of faculties have overseas experiences and 92% of faculties have doctorates. At present, TIEI is actively employing high-end teachers from China and abroad through various channels.
3. Discipline Introduction
The training scheme of the 3 specialties of TIEI is mainly based on the French engineer training system requirement. Referring to the course system of Polytech Nice Sophia, combined with TJU professional degree graduate training requirements, to realize the talents training target.
In the aspect of combining with TJU talents training scheme, the courses of this project follow the training requirement of professional degree graduate, via classification guidance, capability orientation, collaboration training and connotation leading, are to construct the 4C training system and realize the characterized training of the professional degree. In the courses setting, the modularization is implemented and multi-level enterprise actual engineering practice is emphasized, the developing and constructing of the industrial leading-edge courses are focused, the industry-university combination is highlighted, the training of knowledge transferring ability, hands-on innovative capability and professional competency are enhanced.
The engineer education stage has a total of 3 years, and about 2000 credit hours. The major researching directions of the 3 specialties are:
Electronics specialty is a discipline utilizing the modern technologies such as applied computing to do the electronic information controlling and information addressing, mainly researching on the acquiring, addressing, transmitting, saving, reappearing and other links of information addressing, to realize the designing, developing, applying and integrating of various electronic equipment and information system. Communication engineering has the modern technologies of voice, light, electricity as the hardware basis, to reach the information exchanges goal with the corresponding software. It mainly researches the producing of signals, transmitting, exchanging and addressing of information, and the theoretical and engineering application problems in the aspects of computer communication, digital communication, satellite communication, optical fiber communication and wireless communication. Electronics specialty trains the students to master the basic theory and specialty knowledge of this field, making students get a solid foundation, comprehensive qualities, relatively strong engineering practice ability and innovative capability. It trains the application-type, compound type, high end engineering technological and engineering management talents that can undertake the professional technological work of this field.
Computer science specialty has the following 3 directions: ①machine intelligence and machine perception: it uses the intelligentized machine perception system as the core and the multi-discipline research as the characteristic, to launch the application basic research in the aspect of intelligence perception information addressing. Such as the visual perception, auditory perception, digital media, visualization, intelligence man-machine interaction. In the future it will be applied to the aspects of intelligence robots, machines, electric appliances and those closely related to the daily life. ② computer network and information security technology: it closely combines with the requirement of new-generation network and computing technology, launches the basic theory and technology research; combines with the features of modern network, adopts the intelligence entity of autonomous function as the core, and has the workable and in-depth research in the network invasion detection and defense system. It mainly research on the new-type network communication agreement, the mutual connection of network and route choices, network planning and designing, network performance analysis, network management, network and information security technology, network information searching and service system and other network application systems. ③ big-data and machine study: with the sharply rise of the big data and machine studying technology of the recent years, the direction aims at the frontier and development trend of machine study technologies in the big-data era, researches on the way to use machine study algorithm to make reasonable and accurate modeling of the big data, and realize the analysis and prediction of the data. In the future is will be applied in the fields including intelligence transportation, smart medical treatment, emergency processing, urban planning and other fields closely related to human life. It trains students to master a solid computer science basic theoretical knowledge, the ability to use principles, methods and new technologies to have systematic analysis, designing and development, to know the latest developing trend of home and abroad, enable students to have strong engineering hands-on ability, management ability, international vision and innovative ability, to do the work of their specialty fields such as scientific research, software and hardware systematic designing, project management, software development and system integration.
Building has 3 specialty directions: ① the intelligence designing of the ecological building—to solve the technological and scientific problems of the designing of smart building (frontier problems of international technologies, relying on the advantageous disciplines of architectural discipline, driving the relative disciplines such as computer). ② the intelligence operation of green building—to solve the real weaknesses of green, low-carbon, energy-saving architectures of our country (national major requirement, relying on the advantageous disciplines including architectural designing, architectural technology, heating ventilation and air conditioning, automation, to exert the constellation effect of the disciplines). ③ intelligence monitoring and assessing of the health degree of architecture---responding to the issues of heritage protection and the early warnings of a large amount of existing hidden dangers of the architectures (major national cultural and social requirements, relying on the advantageous disciplines of architectural heritage protection, structural engineering, precision instrument, and exert the constellation effect of the disciplines). The architecture and civil engineering specialty trains students to master the basic theories of controlling theory, computer application technology, information addressing technology, communication technology, architectural equipment controlling technology, building automation, architecture energy-saving and other fields with width; to get a relatively strong engineering hands-on ability, management ability, international vision and innovative ability, able to do the engineering designing, engineering construction and management, system integration, application research and development work related to the technologies of architectural electric and intelligence in the designing institute, engineering company and government departments. It actively trains the high-end international excellent architectural engineers with wide basis, high quality, innovative spirit, hands-on ability for the intelligent architectural field serving for national economic construction and development.
4. Employment Prospects
At present, China implements “The Belt and Road”, “Made in China 2025”, “Internet+” and other significant strategies to promote innovation driven development. The new economy, represented by new technologies, new formats, new modes and new industries, has been developing vigorously. Higher demand has been put forward for engineers and technicians. Therefore, it is urgent to speed up the reform and innovation of engineering education. In order to deepen the reform of the engineering education and promote the construction and development of new engineering, the Higher Education Division of Ministry of Education has carried out the researches and practices of the new engineering. The innovative engineers training mode of Tianjin International Engineering Institute (TIEI) accords with the demand of new economic development, deepens industry-university-research integration and carries out the university-enterprise cooperation and reform research and practice of talents training mode, which meet the construction ideas of “The Belt and Road” and demands of the new engineering development.
Through the establishment of enterprise clubs and innovation centers, a new partnership between TIEI and enterprises is formed. Enterprises no longer cooperate with one specific professional field, but join in the cooperation network to achieve the resource sharing and complementary advantages of university-enterprise cooperation, which strengthen the mutually beneficial relationship between university and enterprises. The enterprise club and innovation research center are the mainly ways to realize the new cooperative relationship. The enterprise club not only reserves human resources for enterprise members, but also provides a platform for enterprises and institutions to explore the two-track training mechanism, as well as a chance for the institute to construct talents combat capability-training platform. Jointly built by the university and enterprises, innovation research center is an important platform to develop students' hands-on skills and innovation spirit, to promote transformations of scientific research, and to create business opportunities. At present, 42 enterprises have joined in the club to participate in the TIEI talents training process.
TIEI will usher in the first batch of graduates in July, 2017. All the 2017 TIEI graduate students have achieved employment contracts from well-known enterprises, which include HUAWEI, Alibaba, and MeiTuan and so on. The interns and graduates of TIEI have been well received by the enterprises, which accord with the TIEI innovative hand-on talents training goal.
5. Students Recruitment Plan
TIEI plans to hold unifying students’ recruitment nationwide for the 3 specialties of electronics, computer science and architecture and civil engineering (smart building direction), providing the engineer training for the level of full-time professional degree graduates. Students with the following specialties are accepted according to our plan:
For Electronics specialty: students with the undergraduate specialties of electronics information engineering, communication engineering, internet-of-things engineering, electronic science and technology, opt-electric information science and engineering, automation, electric engineering and automation, etc.
For Computer Science specialty: students with the undergraduate specialties of computer science and technology, software engineering, electronic information engineering, communication engineering, etc.
For Building specialty: students with the undergraduate specialties of civil engineering, architectural technology science, HVAC engineering, energy and power engineering, automation, mathematics and applied mathematics, measurement and control technology and instrumentation, computer science and technology, etc.
Application of the students recommended exemption of exams: please enter TJU graduate recommended exemption system:http://121.193.130.231:8088/tuimian/. The opening time is June 1st, 2017 to September 27th, 2017, and TIEI holds interviews batch by batch. This system is only the assisting system for TJU to accept students recommended exemption of exams, used for the information collection of reexam of the early stage. After the opening of “recommended-exemption service system” of the education ministry, the candidates must submit their specialty choices of TJU within 2 days and finish the final recruitment.
Application of the ordinary graduates attending the exams should pay attention to TJU graduate admission website in September, 2017.

There are Party branch study, enterprise club forum, enterprise visit, academic culture construction, badminton competition, Football Club, Calligraphy Association, Youth Volunteers Association, and Innovative Entrepreneurship Association and so on.
