Notice: There are two grades of standards: Grade A and Grade C. The grade between A and C is the Grade B, lower then Grade C is Grade D.

TIEI Postgraduate Graduation Requirement Supplementary

In order to improve the quality of postgraduate education of TIEI, a graduation requirements supplementary is formulated, referring to Tianjin University Engineering Master’s Dissertation Regulations, Tianjin University Master’s and Doctor’s Degree Awarding Rules, the graduation requirements of related schools within Tianjin University, and the development goals as well as the principle of talents training of TIEI. The requirement supplementary is listed as follows:

I.Students shall accomplish 1800 class-hours(including the practice) courses during their postgraduate years.

II.Students shall take the Blue-collar practice, the Technician Internship, and the Engineer Internship. Each internship shall be concluded with an English individual report along with an internship defense in English. The employer shall provide an internship certification according to the students’ performance and their contribution to the company.

III.Academic paper publication is not compulsory for postgraduates, while TIEI encourages innovative works, such as publishing fine papers, applying for patents. TIEI rewards students for their achievement in academic paper publishing and scientific research.

IV.The thesis proposal, the intermediate test, the review and defence, and other related issues of degree’s dissertation shall all be conducted according tothe Tianjin University Engineering Masters’ Dissertation Regulationsand sub-degree-committee of schools. Related reports, dissertations, and defence at every stage should be done in Chinese.

V.Dissertations shall be written in the format given byTianjin University Master’s and Doctor’s Degree Dissertation Format Unification Regulations.

VI.The topic of degree dissertation generally comes from students’ third-stage internship. The topic should have specific engineering background. The problem should be of a level of technical difficulty and need considerable amount of work to be solved. The research findings should be of practical application value and relatively broad promotional value.

VII.Degree dissertation should meet the following requirements:

i.The dissertation work should be of technical difficulty, research findings should be advanced and practical.

ii.The dissertation work should be accomplished individually with the guidance of the teacher. The work should be of certain amount.

iii.The literature review part of the dissertation should provide clear statement and analysis of the engineering problem or the research status at home and abroad.

iv.The dissertation text should state the analytical investigation on the research problem or engineering practical problem on basis of basic theory, scientific approach, professional knowledge, and technological means. It should also contain individual perspective on certain aspects.

v.The dissertation should be written with clear concepts, precise reasoning, appropriate structure, fluent sentences, clear figures, reliable statistics, and correct calculations.

the 97th meeting summary of Tianjin University Academic Degree Evaluation Committee

1. Students shall accomplish 1800 class-hours (including the practice) (bilingual) courses;

2.Students shall accomplish the three-stage internships;

3.TIEI shall obtain the CTI authentication;

4.Dissertation topics should be proactive projects in accordance with the industrial development;

5.Dissertation should be written in the format given byTianjin University Master’s and Doctor’s Degree Dissertation Format Unification Regulations;

6.Reports should be written in Chinese and English; The French teachers shall attend the defence;

7.Academic paper publication is not compulsory;

8.Research findings shall contribute to the solution of practical engineering problems; Internship employers shall provide the certification for internship performance.

Sub-Committee of Electrical and Information Engineering School (Tianjin University Academic Degree Evaluation Committee the sixth sub-committee) Decision:

The sub-committee chair Professor Ma Jianguo, and Qiushi Honors College party committee secretary Shan Xiaolin introduced the TIEI training mode, training features, training program development methods, training program development requirements. The committee participants had a detailed discussion on the training program, the form of mentor organization, the academic paper and dissertation standard, the enterprise mentor selection criteria, the composition of the dissertation committee, and other related topics . Participants reached a consensus and passed the TIEI Electronics Engineering Full-Time Engineering Master Training Program.

At the same time, the committee posed suggestions in practical operation case:

i.School tutor: The degree evaluation committee recommend a mentor group consists of at least three individuals. The group shall be formally appointed by the school. The group would be responsible of all the TIEI students majoring in Electronic at the current year.

ii.Enterprise mentor: The enterprise mentors can be ones recommended by the school tutor, or ones recommended by TIEI. However, the enterprise mentor candidates shall meet the mentor selection criteria of TIEI.

iii.According to the basic requirements and assessment criteria for degree dissertation of different forms by the National engineering postgraduate degree education steering committee, TIEI formulate the regulations of degree’ s dissertation and internship reports.

iv.Decisions have been made that, the defenses and reports of three stage internships shall be done in English, while the thesis proposal and dissertation defence should be accomplished in Chinese and in the format required by the Graduate School of Tianjin University.
