Course Description Parametric design for architecture, is an emerging approach to architectural design. The core idea of the method is to turn the entire elements of architectural design into variables of some function, and by changing the function, or rather the algorithm, the architect is able to obtain different architectural design solutions. This advanced course in parametric modelling for architecture is conducted on the Rhino and Grasshopper platforms. Based on the advanced course on the principles and design methods of parametric design for architecture, the principles and operations of advanced battery groups such as genetic algorithms structural performance analysis in Grasshopper are explained. |

Course Objectives Through this course, postgraduate students should understand the basic process of building parametric models; master the logic of building parametric models; master the advanced operation of Rhino software and Grasshopper plug-in; be able to apply what they have learned to use Rhino software to analysis the performance of the buildings and design performance-based solutions; and be able to use genetic algorithms to optimise solutions. |

Capability Tasks CT2: To apply relevant professional knowledge to the field of science and technology: understanding of the basic concepts and its connotation, application of different methods and concepts which have been learned, capability of judging the scope and limitations of such applications. CT3: To grasp methodologies and engineering tools: identifying, utilizing and solving problems. Even if the students are not familiar with the content, they can turn to computer tools for systematic analysis. CS1: Apply design software and performance software for intelligent design of building, able to complete basic architectural design and understand the design methods of buildings |
