  1.Joint Cultivation Programs

Tianjin University cooperates with many universities at home and abroad through the credit system to build a N+N education mode for undergraduates and postgraduates. In the context of this mode, Students will obtain different degrees from two universities. Up to now, Tianjin University has opened 48 joint training programs with 44 universities.

TIEI students can participate in the joint programs with the University of Manchester (UK), University of Waterloo (Canada), Monash University (Australia), École Centrale Nantes (France) and universities of Polytech Group. Following the development blueprint, TIEI has been making efforts to open new programs with good prospect and to cooperate with well-known educational institutions to cultivate engineering elites.

2.National Construction of High-quality University Projects of Graduates

According to the agreement signed between Tianjin University and the China Scholarship Council, excellent students graduated from undergraduate programs, or currently enrolled in Master's or PhD programs at TJU are selected every year. The selected students will pursue their PhD degree or study in the joint PhD programs in first-class universities and research institutions overseas. The universities or research institutions normally have long-term cooperation relationship with Tianjin University or are designated based on our country’s needs. TJU has successively signed agreements with the Humboldt University of Berlin, the National University of Singapore, the University of Western Australia and another 19 overseas universities and research institutions. As a result, TIEI students will enjoy the opportunity to apply for government funding to to pursue their PhD degree overseas.

  3.Short-term Exchange Program

Short-term outbound exchange programs refer to various study and research programs during winter/summer vacation jointly organized by TJU and a number of universities overseas. At present, TIEI students can apply for short-term exchange programs of many well-known overseas universities, such as University of California, Berkeley, University of Leeds in the United Kingdom, and Nanyang Technological University in Singapore. They can also get the chance to study at Georgia Institute of Technology in the United States, Nanyang Technological University in Singapore, and the University of Queensland in Australia by applying for international summer schools.

Since its establishment, TIEI has sent a total of 112 students to France, UK, Italy, Spain, Japan, Republic of Korea, US, Singapore and other countries for exchange and study. In order to enhance the exchange and cooperation with Polytech Group in France, the University of Queensland, and Incheon National University in Republic of Korea, TIEI formulated the 2020 Exchange Plan for Postgraduates at the end of 2019, expecting to send 85 students to study at these universities in the form of whole-semester exchange, study and practice during summer vacation, and the exchange-study-visit program. However, due to the outbreak of COVID-19 around the world, the students were restricted to going abroad. Therefore, TIEI negotiated with partner institutions to suspend the exchange program, and selected students to participate in activities such as internship in ASEAN and online practice camp on international competency, organized students to take part in online practice forum – HydroEurope and HydroAsia supported by Polytech Nice Sophia - and launched academic exchange month which offers lectures on cutting-edge technology by foreign experts in various disciplines to broaden students' international horizons.
