On the morning of July 11, the Admission Information Session of Tianjin International Engineering Institute (TIEI) was held in Building No. 26. Philippe Gourbesville, President of French Polytech Nice-Sophia, attended the Admission Information Session and Shan Xiaolin, Party Secretary of Qiushi Honors College, hosted the meeting, which received the inquiries from hundreds of students and parents in and out the school.
Shan Xiaolin explained the mission, training targets and model, features and advantages of TIEI. He pointed out that TIEI is a pilot talents training area under the joint establishment of Tianjin University and French Polytech Nice-Sophia and will certainly foster compound international engineering leaders for promoting national economic and social development and world progress with the French elite education mode, diversified high-level teachers, professional enterprise internship provided by Enterprise Club, more overseas student exchange opportunities and the international cultural atmosphere.
Philippe Gourbesville briefly introduced the general situation of French Polytech Nice-Sophia and made an in-depth lecture on the history and important position of engineering education in France. Students of TIEI also came to the stage, shared their experience and gains in learning and growth at TIEI, and also expressed high recognition on the training model as well as their confidence in the future. During the meeting, Philippe Gourbesville and Shan Xiaolin answered the questions posed by students one by one, and made exchange and interaction with the students.
In the afternoon, Philippe Gourbesville made special discussion on the preparation for application of CTI certification with Shan Xiaolin, Party Secretary of Qiushi Honors College, Luo Xia, Deputy Director of Qiushi Honors College and members of CTI Certification Working Team. Shan Xiaolin summarized the current major report on CTI certification, preparation progress of support materials and thoughts framework. Philippe Gourbesville fully praised the completed part of CTI certification report, specifically guided some details and highlighted importance and matters needing attention during site review. The CTI Certification Working Team expressed they will revise the CTI certification report and improve the preparation for site review according to the guidance of Philippe Gourbesville.
Introduction to Tianjin International Engineering Institute
Established on May 13, 2014, Tianjin International Engineering Institute (TIEI) is a pilot engineering talents training area built by Tianjin University and French Polytech Nice-Sophia. Relying on the engineering advantages of Tianjin University and superior resources of overseas high-level university in engineering education and combining the building target of Tianjin University for an “Integrated, Research-Based, Open and International” world-class university, TIEI deeply promotes the Sino-foreign cooperation in running school, actively explores the training model for international engineering leaders and constantly improves education quality to build an open and international first-class engineering institute that meets the demands of an innovative country for talents, serves the national “One Belt and One Road” strategic layout and fosters the international engineering leaders promoting China’s social and economic development as well as world progress.
TIEI provides three majors, namely intelligent building, electronic information system and computer. It receives “recommended students” from universities nationwide. After obtaining the recommendation of exam exemption for postgraduate study, the students can apply for Tianjin International Engineering Institute, and be admitted if the primary selection and re-examination are qualified. The school duration is three years for training talents at the level of full-time postgraduate professional degree education. Students may obtain postgraduate diploma and professional master degree of Tianjin University as well as CTI-certified engineer diploma upon graduation.
At TIEI, students may receive lectures from professors of Tianjin University, French teachers, enterprise senior managers or experts, of which 80% are bilingual and taught only in English. In term of course learning, ratio of teachers to students is high, and small classes are offered to ensure course quality; and the institute provides explanation classes, tutoring classes, laboratory classes and oral classes as well as language culture classes, specialized classes and humanities administration classes to fully train good integrated cross-disciplinary quality and capability. As for professional practice, the institute sets Enterprise Club, which has received 18 domestic and foreign well-known enterprises such as Siemens, Schneider, Tencent, Alipay, Huawei and ZTE. The student internship enterprises are mainly member units of the Enterprise Club. The internship is divided into three stages-blue-collar practice，technician internship and engineer internship for a total time of no less than 10 months. By the French elite education mode, more overseas student exchange chances, professional enterprise internship, diversified high-level teachers and international cultural atmosphere, TIEI will foster compound international engineering leading talents to facilitate the national economic and social development and world progress.
