TIEI Held Seminar on Interdisciplinary Integration

In order to promote interdisciplinary integration, enrich the connotation of Sino-French cooperation, and support discipline construction and evaluation, on January 16, TIEI held an interdisciplinary integration seminar. Director of the Graduate School Training Office Qi Wei, the director of the Degree Office He Fang, the International Education Division of the Training Office staff Shen Yan, the Director of Qiushi Honors College and Dean of TIEI Chen Guanyi, Vice Dean of TIEI Guan Jing, Vice Dean and a teacher of the School of Engineering Shi Yanchao and Li Fawen, Vice Dean of the School of Environment Liu Qingling, and a teacher of the Department of Intelligence, Yu Ce, attended the seminar. The meeting was presided over by Guan Jing.

Chen Guanyi pointed out that through drawing on the training model of French engineers, TIEI has been devoting itself to exploring the interdisciplinary integration and promoting the construction of a new “Intelligence +” specialty. At present, with the theme of “intelligence” and “innovation”, TIEI focuses on the construction of “new engineering”. Based on the experience of Smart Building reform, TIEI establishes two new specialties: Smart Water Engineering and Intelligent Medicine Engineering, which break through the boundary barriers of the Institute, builds the training mode and operation mechanism of the interdisciplinary college with both scientific planning and main and auxiliary functions, and establishes the TJU Brand.

Guan Jing introduced the situation of “Intelligence +” specialty from the aspects of construction background, cooperation mode, training mode and school-enterprise cooperation in detail. She said that as a pilot base of interdisciplinary training in our university, TIEI has received strong support from graduate schools and relevant colleges. Meanwhile, the training concept and model design of interdisciplinary integration need to be further explored and summarized in the process of practice.

Qi Wei said that TIEI has its own characteristics in training concept and mode, training plan design, teaching method reform, internship practice reform, and training quality control. It has a good reference significance in interdisciplinary and inter-college reform and exploration. With the deepening of Engineering education reform, the two levels of colleges and university can enhance communication and explore innovation in the aspect of interdisciplinary integration.

He Fang said that the training concept of interdisciplinary integration reflects the connotation of the “new engineering” construction and is also one of the directions of postgraduate education and teaching reform. This raises new challenges to the quality of training and the quality of dissertation. It needs the joint exploration and efforts of the two levels of the university and the colleges to formulate the corresponding standards for the evaluation and employment of the instructors and clarify the responsibilities and rights of the sub-committees.

Subsequently, the participant leaders and professional teachers discussed in depth in the training plan design, training quality control, dissertation quality, as well as the construction of the instructor team, issues of responsibility and right.

The seminar promoted the communication between the Institute and the Graduate School, deeply analyzed the challenges and opportunities of the construction of interdisciplinary integration, clarified the next stage development focus and direction of TIEI, and had important guiding significance for the Institute to do a good job in the construction of the “new engineering” experimental field at the graduate level.
