Examination is one of the important parts of teaching, is an important means of measuring the effectiveness of teaching, and also an important way for students to evaluate the study. At the same time, the examination also has the functions of urging students to learn and evaluating the degree of knowledge students have mastered and so on. In order to effectively realize the various functions of the examination, strengthen the students' learning effect and improve the teaching level, the International Engineering Institute intend to implement the "compound assessment mode" for some conditional courses, and put forward the following opinions:

One、Purpose and meaning

At present, the examination is basically a single objective test paper. On the one hand evaluation is not comprehensive enough, students can pass the test by cramming for exams and get good results; On the other hand it fails to reflect the teaching effect of the examination, can not supervise and guide students to learn. The implementation of the composite assessment model is based on the needs of courses teaching, aims at strengthening the teaching effect - a comprehensive assessment, so as to effectively strengthen the teaching effect.

Two、Implementation principle

1.Diversified examination forms

According to the nature and characteristics of different majors and courses, from the in-depth examination of students' knowledge, ability and quality, different forms of examination can be set up, including (but not limited to) written examination, oral examination, small thesis (or design), investigation report, literature review, discussion, practical operation and so on. College increases the discussion, openness and the forms associated with reality, to make the test vivid, to raise students’ interest to participate in the examination, to examine the various abilities of students in a flexible way, to change from the "test knowledge" to "test ability", to adapt to future social needs.

2.Comprehensive examination content

In addition to the basic theory of the course, basic knowledge, basic skills, test content also includes the comprehensive ability and innovation ability of asking questions, analyzing the problem, solving the problem after the integration, the internalization of basic knowledge and basic theory.

3.The combination of formative assessment and final assessment

The test model of the combination of formative assessment and final assessment is a full and continuous assessment model, consistent with the needs of the continuous teaching process. The proportion of formative assessment results in the total score needs increasing.

Three、Implement the course

According to different needs of the examination on different courses, the needs of the degree of knowledge mastery and the nature of the course itself, the implementation of composite assessment mode courses can be divided into three categories: practical operational courses, theoretical courses and quality development courses.

Four、Implementation Measures

Different modes of assessments can be designed for different courses.

1. Practical operational courses: practical hands-on design or practice, assessment of the process. The focus of the assessment is to transfer the book knowledge into practical ability of solving practical problems.

2.Theoretical courses: multiple assessment modes can be used, that is, test in accordance with the progress of the course of teaching, basically arranging an examination every 6-8 hours. The mastery of all the knowledge students have learn and the application ability are assessed. A comprehensive examination is arranged after the end of the course. The results are based on multiple examinations.

3.Quality development courses: teachers determine the subject, requiring students to get access to a large amount of information to complete the relevant papers and report and debate the research results in the course discussion based on teaching content. The assessment includes papers writing, data collection analysis, subject report, etc., and is jointly evaluated by the instructor and students in the class.

Five、Evaluation

The implementation of the new examination mode requires the joint efforts of teachers and students. Compared with the original single examination mode, the composite examination mode needs to evaluate the examination effect, the teaching effect, the student achievement accounting and the teacher performance appraisal. The evaluation of the implementation effect is carried out jointly by the participating students, the teachers and the teaching steering committee, focusing on the fairness and justice of the examination and the teaching effect, and continuously improving the teaching level based on the effect feedback.

Six、Performance evaluation

The implementation of the composite assessment model results consists of two parts: the usual results and final exam results. Teachers can determine the usual results based on the nature of the course and assessment model, the proportion: 10% -30%; final exam proportion: 70% -80%.
