Course Description In the field of architecture, simulation software is usually used to simulate the actual project, and the simulation results could guide the designers and technical personnel to optimize the project. This course is designed to help graduate students in the field of Smart Building to master the building simulation software. Based on learning building design software, building structure design software, building thermal environment simulation software, building light environment simulation software, building sound environment simulation software, and class exercises, the students can have a certain understanding of building simulation software. In addition, students can select the building simulation software according to the needs of their own research direction, to complete an actual project. Through the course, the foundation for the use of simulation software in the future study could be consolidated.

Capability Tasks CT1: To understand basic science, and to have analytical ability and the ability to integrate related knowledge. CT3: To grasp methodologies and engineering tools: identifying, utilizing and solving problems. Even if the students are not familiar with the content, they can turn to computer tools for systematic analysis. CT4: To carry out experiments in research environment with the abilities to utilize tools, especially for data collection and processing. CT6: To understand the nature of a given task, such as professional ethnics, morals, security and health management. CS1: Apply design software and performance software for intelligent design of ecological building; CS2: Able to make intelligent monitoring for energy consumption, comfort degree and other physical performance of green buildings, and master active and passive technologies for green guarantee in the operation of buildings; CS3: Able to make intelligent monitoring and evaluation on the soundness of buildings.
Achievements TIEI referred to as the European Project TUNING, has as its goal to cultivate general ability (i.e. vocational ability and transferring ability), and professional ability. No unified standard is available in Chinese universities concerning the students’ capability acquired through the learning process. TIEI requires that our students have solid theoretical foundation, good humanistic quality, and strong innovative and practical capability and management ability. Compared with the European project TUNING, the students’ capability developed through the curriculum studies is divided into the following five levels, according to the NAMEO system: N: Notion. (To have a general understanding of the task, but unable to realize the task independently.) A: Application. (To realize the task with proper guidance.) M: Master. (To voluntarily realize the task.) E: Expert. (To contribute to the progress of the task and to acquire transferring ability.) O: N/A
