Course Description

Business English is a course for students reading for professional master degree. This is a language course that focuses on language skills, takes business skills as supplement and put practicalness and communicative together. As China is taking a further step into international economy and society, all trades and fields have an increasingly needs on talented business English persons. The business English course aims to develop business communication skills in English of students and expand their horizons of globalization. And at the same time, this course is going to laying a business foundation for the future work of the students. This course takes theNew Cambridge Business English (Advanced) as textbook and supplements plenty of explanation on business knowledge and skills. The knowledge includes management, trade, law, finance and accounting and other business activities, which would teach the students essential English words and grammars during business activities and English applied skills during contract, negotiation, letters and other business processes. According to the practice needs in business activities, the course develops from 4 aspects: listening, speaking, reading and writing. The themes of the course involve: job and career, corporation development, business communication, market strategy, staff management, corporation responsibilities, corporation innovation, global economics, and etc.

Course Objectives

  1. Understanding the practical needs of business and normal work environments, putting the real contents of international business activities into classroom, experiencing the real business world.

  2. Familiar with the business-related concepts, convention, development and language formulation, fusion the business and language teaching deeply.

  3. Acting different roles in simulation business activities, having an abundant experiential learning from the roles and case study.

Course Syllabus

  1. Writing a survey report. (Personally, including questionnaire designing, data collecting and analyzing, summarizing and advising)

  2. Oral report presentation. (Personally, according to the survey report)

  3. Course project. (In team, including project selection, process designing, case study and role playing.
