Course Description

Intelligent performance evaluation technology is a multidisciplinary field which requires a deep understanding of materials, sensors and electronics, along with the ability to perform sophisticated numerical and analytical modeling and signal processing.

Structural sensing, structural health monitoring, structural performance assessment, and health prognosis are integral components of modern structural engineering practice. Due to recent extraordinary levels of development in sensor, communication, and signal processing technologies, it is now possible to measure structural properties and behavior with sufficient clarity to assess damage levels and to predict future courses of structural health.

Prerequisite

This course is based onthe following courses:

1)Structural Mechanics

2)Structural Dynamics

3)Integral Transformation

4)Spectral Analysis

5)Finite Element Analysis

6)MATLAB

Course Objectives

Students master the new methods, new ideas andnew technology in theintelligentevaluation ofbuildingstructure through studying and practicing in this course. To master the inspection and evaluation method of building structure.Andlet studentshave the ability to provides a set of both tools (hardware) and methods (software) able to turn data into effective knowledge on structural integrity, durability and reliability.

A five-level objectives of this course is as follows:

Level 1: Detection—Determine if damage is present in the structure.

Level 2: Localization—Locate the site of the damage.

Level 3: Assessment—Estimate the amount of damage.

Level 4: Prognosis—Estimate the future progress of damage and the remaining life of the structure.

Level 5: Remediation—Determine, implement, and evaluate effective remediation

and repair efforts.
