Course Description

The course covers the following topics:

· Design of IIR filters from analog filters

· Design of linear phase FIR filters

· Nonlinear effects of finite word length implementations of digital filters; limit cycles and overflow oscillations

· Statistical analysis of round-off noise in digital filters

· Wave digital filters; state-space structures for digital filters

Prerequisite

Signal and Systems, Digital Signal Processing.

Course Objectives

This course addresses basic knowledge of system analysis and modelling, the theory of filters and design techniques for analog and digital filters based on the theories of signals and systems. Filters are essential components which are extensively used in various electronic systems. Comprehension and mastery of filter theories will be necessary to achieve expected performance in electronic system design.

This course is to provide a theoretical foundation and some practical experience for analog and digital filters design in electronic systems and signal processing techniques.

3. Discrete time systems in the frequency domain,

4. The z–transform,

5. Discrete filter design techniques,

6. Computing the DFTMultirate signal processing and devices.

Capability Tasks

CT1: To understand basic science, and to have analytical ability and the ability to integrate related knowledge.

CT2: To apply relevant professional knowledge to the field of science and technology: understanding of the basic concepts and its connotation, application of different methods and concepts which have been learned, capability of judging the scope and limitations of such applications.

CT3: To grasp methodologies and engineering tools: identifying, utilizing and solving problems. Even if the students are not familiar with the content, they can turn to computer tools for systematic analysis.

CT4: To carry out experiments in research environment with the abilities to utilize tools, especially for data collection and processing.

CT10: To have the capacity to work in international environment; the capability to master one or more foreign languages and be open to foreign cultures; be able to acclimatize themselves to the international language environment.
