Board of Tianjin International Engineering Institute Hosts the First Meeting

On April 24, 2015, the Board of Tianjin International Engineering Institute (TIEI) held its first meeting which was hosted by the Assistant to the President Professor Hu Wenping. All members of the board and representatives from relevant departments and Tianjin International Engineering Institute attended the meeting.

Shan Xiaolin, Party Secretary of Qiushi Honors College, gave a report on the progress, including the organizational structure, teaching group building, training program, and the recruitment of students of the Tianjin International Engineering Institute. In addition, Shan spoke about the status of the submission of the CTI certification, and the future developmental plans of TIEI. The Board Members provided advice and suggestions in terms of strategic positioning, development planning of TIEI, training objectives, how to play a better role in the process of personnel training, and other issues.

Li Qiang, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Tianjin Pipe (Group) Corporation, suggested that the offering of any new majors should serve the national strategies and the demands of the local pillar industries, such as intelligent manufacturing. Yin Jihui, Deputy Director of Tianjin Binhai Hi-tech Industrial Development Area Administration Committee, advised that they would put forward the cooperation between the university and industries given that Tianjin Municipal Government was working on the development of independent Innovation Demonstration Zone in Tianjin, Tan Lixin, Vice-general Manager and Chief Engineer of China Construction Fifth Engineering Division Co., Ltd, recommended that TIEI should emphasize the ability to transform the theory of knowledge and technology into products. Shen Yunyan, General Manager of Marine & Shipbuilding, Cranes and Hoist Sectors, Siemens, suggested that TIEI could set a broader field of studying electronics so as to meet the national trends and the actual needs of businesses. Hu Lingbing, General Manager of Tianjin Metallurgy Group Co., Ltd, said students should have the ability to apply techniques and methods rapidly in any future work. Yan Wende, Vice President of ZTE Corporation, said that the need to strengthened the complex quality of students was important so that students could adapt to the work environment. Business representatives all said they would fully cooperate and support the work of TIEI through establishing a platform of university-industry cooperation to satisfy the demand for talents. In the future, TIEI would be a first-class engineering college, which is open and internationalized so as to meet the needs of high achieving students during the development of an innovative country.

Philippe Gourbesville emphasized the connection between TIEI and the industries and commented that links with businesses was the key aspect for CTI accreditation. The successful operation of the institute required the combination of universities, industries and the government.

Hu Wenping said TIEI would make full use of corporate resources to enable companies deeply involved in the development and practical aspects of the course, and establish long-term communication between the college and the industries.

Li Jiajun concluded that TIEI would take the suggestions to further promote the cooperation with industries, and the relevant departments and TIEI would be responsible for the implementation of its curriculum.
