Zhou Yuan is currently a professor and doctoral supervisor at the School of Electrical and Information Engineering, Tianjin University. She was a visiting scholar at Princeton University in the United States from 2016 to 2017, and a visiting scholar at the University of Southern Queensland in Australia from 2013 to 2014. Her research interest includes machine learning, image retrieval and recognition, video transmission and analysis, and artificial intelligence oceanography.

She serves as a committee member of the Pattern Recognition Committee of the Chinese Association for Artificial Intelligence, the Multimedia Committee of the China Computer Federation, and the Visual Big Data Committee of the Chinese Society of Image and Graphics. She is an IEEE Senior Member.

She has published more than 80 SCI and EI papers and obtained 20 authorized Chinese invention patents. As the project leader, she presided 1 National Key Research and Development Project, 3 National Natural Science Foundation projects. In addition, she presided several provincial projects, ministerial projects, enterprise cooperation projects and military projects. As the main contributor, she won 2 first prizes and 1 second prize of provincial science and technology awards.
