We Are The Champion!  Team Tianjin U+ Won the 1st Place in the Final of the 3rd Solar Decathlon China!

From August 8 to 14, 2022, the final of Solar Decathlon China (SDC) was held in Zhangjiakou, Hebei Province. Standing out from 15 teams composed of 29 famous architectural schools from 10 countries, the Team Tianjin U+ won 8 first prizes and 1 second prize out of 10 single awards, ranking first in terms of total scores!

Postgraduate supervisors, including Yang Wei, Liu Kuixing, Zhou Ting, Zhu Li and Guo Juanli, from the School of Future Technology, were responsible for overall planning and construction of team projects, operation and maintenance management and intelligent systems, solar energy systems, building structures, competition publicity and connection and contact, team student guidance, etc. Under their leadership and guidance, postgraduates including Chen Xiyue, Huang Yisang, Zhang Yi, Zhao Yan and Wu Haowen from the School of Future Technology participated in the competition as members of the operation and maintenance team and the solar energy team with members of the Team Tianjin U+.

During the fierce competition over seven days, supervisor and students obtained great achievements thanks to their repeated considerations and deliberations of each detail day and night, deep understanding and application of the real-time data, and strict management and control of the actual implementation accuracy at the competition site. The teams became the full-score champions in the four sub-contests of "Indoor Environment", "Energy Self-Sufficiency", "Renewable Heating/Cooling" and "48-Hour Zero Energy Consumption Challenge". They also won the first prizes in sub-contests of "Engineering & Construction", "Energy", "Architectural Design", "Communications", "Interactive Experience", the second place in sub-competition of "Market Potentials", as well as the first prize of the "Media's Choice’", and the "Most Intelligent Connectivity and Innovation Award" in "Three Challenges".

The operation and maintenance team independently developed a complete building operation and maintenance monitoring system, which integrated the self-developed IoT sensor, Internet data middle office, intelligent algorithm, control system and digital display platform, providing a universal digital and intelligent building operation and maintenance scheme. The on-site management and remote control team completed the competition task under perfect cooperation. With an overall planning of the energy consumption of the house as a whole, the solar energy team discussed the energy supply strategy with the energy team in the early stage, and raised the "pv + pvt + wind turbine" wind-solar complementary energy supply scheme after their design and regulation, providing the domestic hot water supply strategy focusing on pvt and supported by electric heating.

It is reported that the Solar Decathlon China (SDC) is designed to promote the development of green buildings and enhance people's awareness of environmental protection through competitions. Upholding the concept of embodying the spirit in the ideals of global citizens based on buildings with a focus on smart home, the SDC intends to become the Olympic Games in the field of solar energy and green buildings. As required by the competition for permanent use, each team should build a single-story solar residential building with a building area of 120-150 to adapt to the regional context, and the final result would be evaluated by ten items.

Led by the School of Architecture of Tianjin University, the Team Tianjin U+ is organized as an integrated enterprise-university-research institute team in cooperation with several on-campus bodies and disciplines, including the School of Environmental Science & Engineering, School of Civil Engineering, School of Electrical Automation and Information Engineering, APEC Sustainable Energy Center, School of Mechanical Engineering, College of Intelligence and Computing, School of Future Technology (Tianjin International Engineering Institute, or TIEI), as well as off-campus forces such as Tianjin University Research Institute of Architectural Design and Urban Planning Co., Ltd., Tianjin Chengjian University and the Oslo School of Architecture and Design, and by integrating technical strength of many enterprises. It brings together more than 50 undergraduates, postgraduates and doctoral students of three colleges and universities and over 20 teachers and expert advisors from two countries. Team Tianjin U+ also means the Team Tianjin Union.
